Zildjian FX Trashformer 8" Effects Cymbal
The FX Trashformer 8" is the smallest effects cymbal in the Trashformer range: thin, colour-tinted, very bright and very short. Hit it alone for a quick, airy burst, or stack it on another cymbal to graft white noise onto it.
What sets it apart
- Top brightness on the Sound Lab (10)
- Very short sustain (3)
- Alone or stacked, on top or underneath
- Small size that fits anywhere in a setup
The liveliest of the three sizes
Zildjian offers the Trashformer in 8", 10" and 14". On the Sound Lab, the 8" scores 10 for brightness, 3 for dryness, 6 for definition and 3 for sustain. It's the highest-pitched and the quickest to die away: an accent that stings, then vanishes, handy when you want to punctuate without leaving any wash behind.
Where to put it
Its small diameter lets it slip in where a bigger cymbal would get in the way: above the hi-hats, near the snare or on an extra arm. Stacked on a crash, it shortens and dirties the sound; placed under a small cymbal, it adds a sizzle.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a Zildjian Trashformer?
- A Zildjian effects cymbal from the FX family, colour-tinted, whose wavy curvature produces a trashy sound. It can be played alone or stacked.
- What are some stack ideas with an 8"?
- Zildjian intends it for the top or the bottom of any other cymbal. On a crash, it cuts the wash; on a splash, it adds grit to an accent that's already short.
- How do you mount a small cymbal above another one?
- With a stacking accessory threaded onto the stand, such as the Zildjian Cymbolt, which replaces the wing nut and lets you set the pressure between the two cymbals.
