PreSonus AVB-D16 16x16 AVB-to-Dante Network Bridge
The PreSonus AVB-D16 is a bridge that passes 16 audio channels in each direction between a StudioLive Series III AVB network and a Dante network. It spares you an option card in the console: plug it in, route the channels, and the two systems talk to each other.
What sets it apart
- 16x16 channels on the AVB side and 16x16 channels on the Dante side
- Asynchronous sample-rate conversion: each network keeps its own clock
- Dante at up to 96 kHz while AVB stays at 48 kHz
- 1 AVB port and 2 Dante ports (primary and secondary) on etherCON connectors
- Several AVB-D16s in parallel to go beyond 16 channels
One device, two independent networks
In Dante Controller, as in Universal Control or on a Series III console touchscreen, the AVB-D16 shows up as a simple 16x16 device. Send up to 16 sources from the AVB network to any Dante input, and receive 16 Dante channels back to the consoles, EarMix 16M personal mixers or NSB stage box outputs.
The bridge passes only audio, not network data: routing and clocking are managed on each side, and one computer cannot be connected to both networks at once. The secondary Dante port is for a redundant network.
What you need to plan for
A CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable for each link, an AVB-compatible switch such as the PreSonus SW5E, and the latest firmware on every device on the network. Used without a console, with NSB stage boxes or EarMix 16M mixers only, the AVB-D16 needs a third-party AVDECC controller.

- Bring Dante sources such as playback devices into the AVB network
- Share one bridge between several consoles on the AVB network
Compared with other manufacturers
Bridges between network formats often come from specialized manufacturers, with more channels and large-touring use in mind.

Frequently asked questions
- Can the AVB-D16 also convert Dante back to AVB?
- Yes, it works both ways: 16 channels from AVB to Dante, and 16 channels from Dante to AVB.
- Does the AVB-D16 support AES67?
- PreSonus only mentions AVB and Dante for the AVB-D16: no AES67 compatibility is claimed, either on its page or in its manual.
- Can I use the AVB-D16 with an NSB 16.8 without a console?
- Yes, but you then need a third-party AVDECC controller to route the audio: Universal Control requires a StudioLive Series III console on the network to handle AVB routing.
- Can Dante devices share the same network as AVB?
- PreSonus recommends keeping Dante devices separate from the AVB network. That is exactly what the AVB-D16 allows: two distinct networks, linked by audio only.
