Why a few centimetres change your technique
A foot does not press the same way everywhere. The farther the contact point is from the axle, the less force it takes to push the board down — but the longer your foot's travel becomes. A short footboard forces you to pick one zone; a long one gives you several.
In practice, you can slide forward for powerful passages and move back toward the heel for soft playing, without changing your settings or your pedal.

The heel-toe technique gets two strokes from a single ankle motion: the toe strikes, then the heel rocks down and the ball of the foot comes back for a second stroke higher up the board. That takes two distinct playing zones, a few centimetres apart.
On a standard footboard, those two zones overlap and the technique stays a struggle. That is exactly the room the extended version frees up.

Nothing has been changed on the drive side: same offset cam, same double chain, same spring rocker on bearings. A drummer who already knows how the cam feels will find it unchanged.
