The SM1204 is the double chain that links the footboard to the cam on DW 3000, 5000 and 7000 Series bass drum pedals. It comes with its master link, so you can install it without taking apart the rest of the drive.

A chain stretches, and the pedal loses its snap
Every link in a pedal chain flexes with every stroke. Over the years, the play in all those joints adds up and the chain grows a few millimetres. You feel the result before you hear it: a tiny dead spot between the moment your foot moves and the moment the beater does.
At slow tempos, it goes unnoticed. On sixteenth notes or heel-toe playing, that delay pulls your hands and feet apart, and no tension adjustment can make up for it, because it is not a tension problem.
The master link, and why it saves a full teardown
Without a master link, replacing a chain means removing the cam and sometimes its shaft. With one, you open the chain at the intended point, feed the new one through and close it. It takes a few minutes and disturbs neither the throw nor the beater angle.
That also makes it a good spare to carry: you can swap it in a dressing room, between sets, with no special tools.

Frequently asked questions
- Will it fit a 9000 Series pedal?
- No. The manufacturer lists a separate chain for the 9000 Series: it is not the same part and it carries a different number.
- How can I tell if my chain is worn?
- The sign is a dead spot at the start of the stroke even though no setting has moved. The throw lengthens by itself, and tension corrects nothing.
- Do I need any special tools?
- The master link is designed to be opened and closed without removing the cam. That is the whole point of this version.
- Does a double pedal need two?
- It has two drives. Replacing both together is the only way to keep both feet feeling the same.
