The loose-parts problem, up close
A conventional clutch is a body, two felts, one or two washers and a nut. Five objects that come apart as soon as you loosen them, on a dark stage, often on your knees. Half the clutches in use are running with at least one mismatched part.
Building the felts and washers into the thumbscrews removes the separation altogether. You unscrew, the cymbal comes off, and everything that held it is still in your hand.
