Stroke, the adjustment every other one depends on
Stroke is the distance the beater travels before it hits the head. Short, it makes the pedal quick but less powerful; long, it gives you volume but takes more time. Everything else (spring tension, footboard height, beater angle) is set afterwards, based on it.
That is why a damaged adjustment part cannot be worked around. If the block no longer holds its position, the stroke drifts during the show and every other setting is thrown off at the same time.
