Shure UA850 50 ft (15 m) BNC Coaxial Antenna Cable
The Shure UA850 is a 50-foot (15 m) coaxial cable, RG-8X/U type, 50 Ω impedance, with BNC connectors, designed for use below 1 GHz. It covers the distance from a control room at the back of the hall to the stage, provided its loss is made up by an antenna amplifier.
What sets it apart
- 50 feet (15 m) in a single length, with no joint in between
- 50 Ω RG-8X/U, suited to Shure antenna inputs
- BNC connectors at both ends
- For frequencies below 1 GHz, according to Shure
Beyond 25 feet, amplify
Shure's table limits RG-8X/U to 25 feet without amplification. Over 50 feet, the loss doubles: Shure then advises a UA834 in-line amplifier placed at the antenna, or an active antenna such as the UA874. With a 10 dB amplifier, the same table allows up to 108 feet of RG-8X/U.
Check the receiver before buying
The UA834 amplifier only works connected to certain Shure units, including the ULX-D digital receivers (ULXD4, ULXD4D and ULXD4Q) and the UA844 and UA845 antenna distributors. The BLX4R, QLXD4, SLXD4 and SLXD4D receivers, for their part, do not supply the power that runs the UA834 or the UA874 active antenna.
One continuous length
Every joint between two cables adds loss. Shure recommends a single run from the antenna to the receiver, which the UA850's 50 feet allow without an extension.

Frequently asked questions
- Do you need an antenna amplifier with 50 feet of cable?
- According to Shure, yes for RG-8X/U: its table limits it to 25 feet without amplification. A UA834 at the antenna or a UA874 active antenna makes up the loss.
- Do both antennas need the same cable length?
- No. Shure specifies that each antenna on a diversity receiver connects with the minimum length needed, even if the two cables differ.
- Can two cables be joined to extend the line?
- It's possible, but every joint adds loss. Shure recommends one continuous length from the antenna to the receiver.
- Does the UA834 amplifier work with every receiver?
- No. Shure limits it to models including the AD4D, AD4Q, ULXD4, ULXD4D, ULXD4Q, UA844 and UA845. It does not work connected directly to a BLX4R, QLXD4, SLXD4 or SLXD4D.
